Beccles Lido recently re-opened after their winter refurbishment, and have put a number of careful measures in place to ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy the pool safely this summer.

A member of our team, Vicki, visited the pool this week and wanted everyone to know how wonderful she found the experience. Here’s the review she sent in, along with all the information you’ll need to plan a visit:

‘Beccles Lido is an outdoor swimming pool located just next to the river Waveney here in Beccles, Suffolk.

There is disabled parking on the site for Blue Badge holders.

Currently, everyone MUST pre-book via the website system – don’t turn up and expect to swim as you will be understandably turned away from the Lido.

When booking online, you can opt for slow, medium, fast lane swims or family swim sessions – everything is in timed slots at the present time.

There is a box online to declare any special needs/disabilities – and also whether you require hoist access (we would suggest you telephone to confirm these arrangements in advance of your visit).

On arrival, you will be checked off the list, issued a wristband and have a temperature check.

Changing rooms, disabled toilets, and lockers are all outside – all swimmers must arrive ready to swim so travel with your swimwear on & something simple over the top.

Wrist bands for the different lanes/sessions/spectators are issued and are not interchangeable during the session.

There are grass areas with picnic tables, but you cannot stay beyond your booked slot time – there are some tables/seating along the riverbank just outside Beccles Lido.

Note for Carers – if you wish to ask for a special carers rate this must be done by telephoning Beccles Lido as the online booking system does not support this at the present time.

All in all, a great provision which has given a great deal of thought to the Covid-19 protocol. Really nice for an outdoor swim if the sea isn’t your thing!
